At Fifty London, identity verification is a mandatory requirement for every customer account. This document sets out the legal basis for identity checks, the information and documents that may be requested, how verification is carried out, and the consequences if verification cannot be completed. This policy applies to all customers accessing services through Fifty London in the United Kingdom.
1. Legal Basis
Fifty London operates within the regulatory framework established by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). Under Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) Condition 17.1.1, all remote gambling operators licensed in Great Britain must obtain and verify sufficient information to establish a customer’s identity before that customer is permitted to gamble.
The requirement to verify identity exists in order to:
- Confirm that the customer is aged 18 or over, in compliance with UK law on the minimum legal gambling age.
- Confirm the customer’s identity to reduce the risk of fraud, impersonation, and the use of false details.
- Support anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) obligations under applicable UK legislation.
- Ensure that funds are paid to the correct and verified account holder.
- Enable accurate self-exclusion and responsible gambling controls.
These are legal obligations. The company cannot waive or defer them.
2. When Verification Is Required
Identity verification must be completed before a customer is permitted to place any wager or access gambling services. Verification is not deferred to the point of withdrawal. Customers are informed, prior to making any deposit, of the types of identity information or documents that may be required and how to submit them.
Where automated electronic checks are sufficient to confirm identity, document upload may not be required at the point of registration. If electronic checks do not return a confirmed match, or if risk indicators are identified at any stage, document-based verification is requested before access is granted or continued.
Fifty London does not impose new identity information requirements at the point of a withdrawal request if that information could reasonably have been requested at an earlier stage. Exceptions apply where additional checks are required at that time by other legal obligations, including AML requirements.
3. Information Subject to Verification
At a minimum, Fifty London is required to verify the following details for every customer:
- Full legal name
- Current residential address
- Date of birth
This information must be verified, not only collected. Verification may be carried out through electronic checks against trusted databases, through document review, or through a combination of both methods.
4. Documents That May Be Requested
Depending on the outcome of electronic checks and the customer’s risk profile, Fifty London may request one or more of the following documents.
4.1 Proof of Identity
Acceptable documents include a valid passport, a UK or EU driving licence, a national identity card, or armed forces identification. The document must be current and clearly show the customer’s full name and date of birth.
4.2 Proof of Address
Acceptable documents include a utility bill, bank statement, council tax bill, mortgage statement, or official government correspondence. Documents submitted as proof of address are generally required to be dated within the three months preceding the request.
4.3 Proof of Payment Method
In certain circumstances, confirmation of the payment method used to fund an account may be requested. This may include a photograph of a payment card showing the customer’s name and the first six and last four digits, a bank statement, or a screenshot from a verified e-wallet account.
4.4 Additional Verification
Where photographic identification is provided, the customer’s appearance may be compared to the photograph in the document. In some cases, a selfie or a liveness check may be requested to confirm that the document belongs to the person submitting it. The customer may also be asked to hold the document alongside a handwritten note containing their name and the date of submission.
5. Electronic Verification
Where Fifty London uses electronic verification methods, checks are conducted against authoritative data sources including credit reference agency records, electoral roll data, and other trusted databases. The standard applied is consistent with UK regulatory guidance, which requires at minimum two separate data matches confirming the customer’s full name, date of birth, and current address.
Electronic verification is one method of fulfilling the obligation to verify identity. If electronic checks are inconclusive, document-based verification is carried out.
6. AML and Enhanced Due Diligence
Identity verification at Fifty London forms part of a broader AML and CTF compliance framework. As part of this framework, customer information may be screened against sanctions lists, Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) databases, and fraud watchlists.
Where a customer’s activity or profile indicates elevated risk, enhanced due diligence may be applied. This may include requests for source of funds documentation or additional identity evidence. These checks are conducted in accordance with applicable UK AML legislation and UKGC guidance.
7. Accuracy and Ongoing Obligations
Customers are required to provide accurate and truthful information at all times. Fifty London takes reasonable steps to ensure that identity information held on a customer remains accurate over time. If a customer’s circumstances change in a way that affects the accuracy of the information held, the customer is responsible for notifying the company and providing updated documentation as required.
Providing false, misleading, or fraudulent identity information is a serious breach of the terms and conditions and may constitute a criminal offence under UK law. Accounts found to have been opened or operated using false identity information are suspended and reported to the relevant authorities where required.
8. Failure to Complete Verification
If a customer does not provide the required identity information or documents within the timeframe specified in a request, Fifty London reserves the right to restrict or suspend access to the account until verification is completed. In cases where verification cannot be completed, the account may be closed. Any funds held in the account at the time of closure are handled in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and the platform’s account closure procedures.
9. Data Handling
Identity documents and personal data collected during the verification process are handled in accordance with Fifty London’s Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Documents are retained only for as long as required by law or regulatory obligation and are stored securely. They are not used for any purpose other than identity verification, AML compliance, and related legal obligations.
10. Contact
